Overview

Description

Mont Alto State Park was designated Pennsylvania's first state forest park in 1902. It was perfectly situated near Mont Alto Forestry Academy, which began training the Commonwealth's first professional foresters. Today that tradition continues at the Mont Alto Campus of the Pennsylvania State University. This quiet park features a unique pavilion, picnicking and trout fishing. In 1976, when Pennsylvania turned over control of the oldest State Park, now known as Valley Forge National Historic Park, to the federal government, Mont Alto became the oldest state park still in the state park system.
